The baking ingredients manufacturer from Asten is setting the course for further growth and is building a new logistics centre on the company premises.

backaldrin’s more than 60-year success story has been shaped by continuous growth. For this reason, the Upper Austrian family business is investing at its Asten site this year. A state-of-the-art logistics centre will be constructed on a total area of over 9,000 square metres. 

“This project marks a necessary and important step in our further development. Modern logistics form the backbone of a company. It is an investment in a successful future that strengthens both our company and the business location of Upper Austria,” emphasises backaldrin CEO Harald Deller.

Located on the premises, the new centre will manage all incoming and outgoing goods at the company headquarters. The new 16-metre-high hall is the ideal addition to the existing high-bay warehouse. After registration, trucks can load and unload goods at the twelve docking ramps in the front area.

Directly adjacent to the logistics centre, a new two-storey office building will also be constructed next to the employee car park. Connection to the existing logistics hall and the high-bay warehouse will be provided via a conveyor corridor, known as a “spine.” For increased workplace safety, pedestrians and forklift drivers will be separated on the two planned passageways. Energy efficiency is also a key aspect of the new building. Photovoltaic modules covering approximately 4,400 square metres are planned on the roof of the logistics centre to provide in-house energy. A large-scale storage system with a capacity of 1.5 MWh is planned accordingly to capture surplus energy at night and cover peak demand. New compressors and a heat pump will support heat utilisation in the new section. Completion is scheduled for the end of 2026.

This investment is not only significant for backaldrin, but also for the economic location of Upper Austria.
